The sanctuary is central to our campaign to end bear bile farming in Asia. It is also a focal point for public education regarding bear conservation and welfare in China – from evolution and ecology to the bears’ status on farms and in the wild today.
We have fortnightly open day tours of our Moon Bear Rescue Centre (max. four groups of 20 people). We hold summer camps for university students from all around China and welcome a constant stream of buses bringing primary school children from surrounding areas. And increasingly, we’re hosting major international and Chinese media crews and photographers on site.
Our Education Room, with photo displays, actual cages and barbaric farm equipment, plays a pivotal role in our campaign, introducing people to the truth about the bile industry. We plan to replace the current one-room education centre with a new education facility, which – along with its display of cages and equipment – will have large viewing areas for visitors to watch the bears now enjoying their freedom.
