We are thrilled to have the support of Shanghai’s official English-language newspaper, Shanghai Daily, in getting across the message of animal protection in China. Shanghai Daily, which has a circulation of around 100,000 and is distributed to Shanghai’s consulates, chambers of commerce, foreign businesses and residential and commercial areas, has launched “Animal Planet” – a full page devoted to animal welfare and conservation issues that runs each fortnight. This is a first for China and shows just how much progress is being made for animals in the country.
Elise Fu, who edits the Animal Planet page, says the stories include interviews by Shanghai Daily’s own reporters, as well as news releases from Animals Asia and other NGOs. “Also, by cooperating with a local animal-protection association, we run a special adoption column on the page for abandoned dogs and cats. With cooperation from both sides, we have found new homes for dozens of abandoned animals,” Ms Fu says.
We are grateful for the opportunity to collaborate further with Shanghai Daily on increasing public awareness of animal-welfare and issues such as safety around animals.
